MY FIRST TIME AT BUSCH STADIUM!!!

Ken has been talking all Summer about taking me to Busch Stadium for a Cardinal's game but we have been waiting for cooler weather!!  His friends told him if he took me while the weather was steaming hot I'd be miserable and I would never go again!!  He got a call from his nephew, Larry, in Memphis .. he was coming to town for a Cardinal's game and wanted to take Uncle Kenny and his new wife with  him .. we certainly couldn't say no to that .. LOL!!  



I should have bummed one of Ken's Cardinal's hats to make my outfit complete!!!! 



The red brick building is the new Busch Stadium.  The parking lot we were in was about a 2 block walk to the Stadium. 

It wasn't too crowded when we got there .. we were about an hour and a half early!!!  We wanted to be sure to get a good place to park so we purposely went early!

You can tell we're early .. we got to watch them prepare the ball field .. and look at all those empty seats!!  They didn't stay empty long!!! 

A half hour later and it's getting a whole lot busier!!

Time for a Hot Dog and Burger and Fries .. only $16.00! 

Time for the National Anthem .. even Fred Bird covers his heart!!

The National Anthem was sung by a children's group but I don't remember where they were from.  They did a great job!!

There are still a lot of empty seats!!  

AH HA .. now I know .. the National Anthem was performed by Greenville Elementary's Greenville Bearytones!!!   So glad I took this picture of the video of the group as they performed!!

Fredbird .. they have T shirts rolled into balls and the girls have giant rubber bands .. the T shirt ball is placed in the rubber band and shot into the crowd and fought and lucky Cardinal fans get a free Cardinals T shirt!!!  None of us was the lucky fan!!!

The game is on ..  St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals!!

Everybody around us had their phones out taking pictures of themselves so I thought I might as well give it a shot too!!!  

I thought I had a great shot of all three of them but Jerry moved back about the time I snapped the picture!!!  Oh well .. you can still see all three of them!! 

Not many empty seats now .. LOL!!

 



Jerry, Larry, Ken and Me .. the best looking bunch in the crowd .. LOL!!  I'll be wearing a Cardinals hat the next time!!  A lady sitting behind us was kind enough to take a picture during a break in the game!

This is the view from our seats without using the zoom lens .. we were in the seats behind the red head in the left corner of the picture.   You can see what's going on a whole lot better at home in front of the TV but you sure miss a lot of excitement!!! 

People people everywhere .. I told you those seats wouldn't be empty long .. LOL!! 

 

 

Games over .. lots of happy Cardinals fans pouring out of the Stadium .. we won 4-1!! 

YAAAYYYYYYY CARDS!!!

 

As we were walking out of the Stadium and I was seeing all the people pouring out and all the cars already out in the streets I was thinking OMG we're never going to get out of here!!  BUT .. Jerry picked the lot we parked in and it was PERFECT .. only a couple blocks from the Stadium .. and there was a back way out of the lot so you didn't have to try to get out in all the traffic that was going through!!!  And Larry picked a perfect day to go to the game and had great seats .. temp was in the eighties but our seats were in a shaded area AND there was a wonderful breeze blowing through all afternoon!!   

 

What a fun afternoon it was .. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to the Stadium.  And Meeting Larry and Jerry was a great treat too .. they are two very nice guys AND they're almost as wacky as Ken .. gotta' love 'em!!!  Thank You Larry for this adventure.. hopefully we will do it again some time .. and of course Jerry will have to come along too!!! 

 

LIZ AND KEN'S BIG ADVENTURE!!!

Ken and I are  going on a really big adventure next week .. we're going to Hawaii!!!  We had a short honeymoon in Eureka Springs, Arkansas after our wedding on July 14 but Ken says this is our second honeymoon!!   And YES .. that's my laptop setting there with the luggage .. how can I possibly go off and leave my laptop????? 

 Pat & Rich and Sylvia & Carl (our friends from the Bread Company ) are also going .. we will be sharing a condo in Maui for 4 days and a beach house in Kauai for 7 days  .. both have 3 bedrooms and 3 baths .. WHEW!!  Carl and Sylvia are actually the ones who got this adventure going!!  They were making plans to go and Ken jumped into the conversation .. and then Rich and Pat got into the plans and it was soon decided that it would be great for all 3 couples to go and share expenses .. a great deal for all of us!!!  

*** Pat and Rich stood up with us at out wedding and Carl and Sylvia were "honorary" ring bearer and flower girl although they didn't actually walk up the aisle (ie sidewalk) with us Sylvia did throw flower petals as we were coming back down the sidewalk / aisle!!  So it's totally apropos that they go on our second honeymoon  with us!! 

 I've been more nervous than excited about this trip ..(we'll be spending a mighty long time on flying through the skies) .. but once Ken brought the suitcases down from the attic and we started gathering things together to pack I started getting excited!!  And then this evening I did some searching on the web and came up with pictures of the two places we would be staying and I must tell you .. now I am REALLY excited!!!  Ken and I were in agreement that we just might not want to leave that place!!  Check out the links below and you'll see what I mean!!!

LOL!!!

HALLELUJAH ..  OUR BAGS ARE PACKED!!!  We still have to add those last minute items .. like my makeup bag and brush and comb .. let me see .. what else???????

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30

Here we are .. our last night at home for 2 weeks .. hard to believe that Wednesday morning we'll be boarding a plane .. flying off to Arizona .. and then after we'll be flying to Hawaii!!  I don't know if I'm more nervous or more excited!!! 

We made our last before-the-trip visit to the Bread Company this morning ..  the whole gang was there to wish us "Bon Voyage"!!!   Betsy got to make the run into the Bread Company with us .. we had loaded up the Nativity Scene Ken had made to deliver it to Pat and Rich's house before heading for Festus and Hillsboro.  We stopped at Wal Mart in Festus to pick up a couple of sleeping masks .. we might need them to be able to get some sleep during our long flights!! I've also got some ear plugs packed away in the purse I'll be carrying .. and a book .. and my camera .. and some crackers .. and some cookies!!!  I've got so much stuffed in there I'm wondering if I'll be able to carry it .. LOL!!! 

We spent the afternoon making sure we had everything ready to go .. I THINK we're at the point where everything is in the bags except my makeup and brushes etc. .. I THINK .. I THINK .. I THINK .. I HOPE .. LOL!! 

We'll be having dinner with Pat, Rich, Sylvia and Carl at Bandana's tomorrow evening and then spending the night in the La Quinta Motel by Lambert Airport.   La Quinta provides a shuttle to the airport AND you can leave your vehicle parked there while you're gone  for only $10.00!!! 

And now .. it's time for a long hot soak in the tub .. and then maybe I'll be relaxed enough to shut my brain off and stop worrying if we've got EVERYTHING in those bags and get a good night's sleep!!!  

 

 

 

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1ST

 

Our day of departure is almost here .. Wooooo Hooooo!!!  We will soon be seeing this beautiful place .. WOW!!!! 

We are supposed to be able to see this view from the Lanai wrapped around the condo we will be staying in when we get to Maui!!!

8:00 pm .. We’ve had a delicious supper at Bandana’s .. and are now settled into our rooms at La Quinta in Hazelwood, Missouri.  The shuttle bus will be picking us up at 5:30 in the morning .. needless to say we’ll not be staying up late tonight!!!  And needless to say I will NOT be getting on my computer in the morning!!!  Soooooo .. the next time I get on my computer to visit with you we will be in Maui!!!!

LET'S GO ANTIQUING!!

The weather in Missouri was beautiful last week and Ken and I decided early in the week that when Wednesday rolled around we were going to go "Antiquing" .. and we did!!  We were up bright and early and headed for Farmington, Missouri to check out their Antique Malls.  Sad to say we started out so early that we got to Farmington before the stores even opened .. LOL!!  Unbeknownst to us the Antique Malls didn't open until 10:00 and we got to the first one about 9:30!!  We'll know next time to sleep in before heading out on our antiquing adventure!!!  After driving  around the Farmington countryside for 30 minutes we made our way to "Forever Antiques" ..



As you can see it's a huge place .. and it was filled with wondrous old things!!!

Ken liked this old wagon .. so did I .. but I couldn't convince him to tie it to the car and pull it back to Hillsboro .. LOL!!  

 

We didn't figure out what this thing was but it was very big and very interesting!!!

The Ghirardellis Chocolate picture is something we may have to come back for someday .. if I can find a place big enough to hang it .. Ken and I both loved it!!  But it's bigger than it looks and what few empty spots we have left aren't big enough!!  I may have to talk myself into getting rid of something .. YIKES!! 

 

I thought the wooden "Thyme To Garden" plaque was very cute .. the wooden folding rack was really neat too!!!  

Ken found our first "must have" treasure of the day!!!  A Coca Cola sign commemorating the 50th Anniversary .. 1886 to 1936.  It's not old and rusty and ugly .. so we got it for only $10.00!!

I thought this was a clever way to display old pictures!!!  I think I would put a big heart on it instead of a star!! 

Just had to get a picture of this guy .. you'll see a friend of his later!!  

We stopped and told this guy where he could find his friend as we were on our way out the door .. LOL!! 

A coffee table made out of a porthole and clock!!  Not something I would want but definitely unique!!!

Of course I love this one!!

Not only is it a bottle of Pepsi but it commemorates Ohio's bicentennial .. AND my maternal ancestors were from Ohio!!

My maternal grandparents, great grandparents and great great grandparents were found in Allen County, Auglaize County and Van Wert County.  Van Wert County is just to the left of Allen County .. Whoops .. I should have turned the bottle just a little bit more!! 

It was a terrific "adventure" AND we found some real "treasures" .. Thank You Ken .. it's so great to have someone in my life who is not only willing to go "treasure hunting" with me but you even enjoy it  .. just one of the things I love about you!!!!
