DAY EIGHT .. WE MEET AT LAST!!

We had such a great time with Tim, Krysti, Oceanna,Sydni and Summer .. how wonderful to see my son and older granddaughter once again and to meet Krysti, Sydni and Summer!!  Oceanna is all grown up now and wasn't able to spend the day with us because of her job but she was with us for the evening!  Things worked out great for meeting Sydni and Summer  since this  was President's Day  and they didn't have school so we were able to have them with for the day .. what a delight they both are!!  I had forgotten what fun it is to spend time with youngsters!!

When I talked to Tim the night before we made plans for them to meet us at our motel / hotel as they needed to come to Fort Pierce to take care of some business anyway.

Following Tim's truck through Fort Pierce!!   Sydni and Summer did a lot of waving out the back window .. I thought I was catching the wave but alack and alas .. I missed it!!!

This is one of the buisnesses Tim remodeled .. he drove us past other buildings he had either remodeled or landscaped also but too much traffic to be able to get pictures!!

We had already decided we would spend our day  "treasure hunting" .. that's a favorite thing to do for Tim and Krysti also!!!  First stop .. this Antique Mall ..

Purses .. cameras etc. had to be left in the car or put in a locker in this store so no pics .. I don't think any of us found anything here .. but we had a great time looking!!  Ken had told Sydni and Summer they could really be a help by looking out for a spittoon for him to buy .. of course he had to try to describe a spittoon for them!!  They got really excited about finding a spittoon and kept taking us off to look at what they had found .. LOL!!  Sad to say there was not a spittoon in the place but we all had a lot of fun with the search!!

Next stop .. Long John Silvers for lunch ..

Meet my granddaughter Summer .. don't you just love that big smile!!!!

And this is Sydni .. she has a beautiful smile too .. but too busy nibbling in this picture!!!  Great pic of Grandma and Grandpa too  .. LOL!!

And Krysti and Tim .. I don't know what Tim's trying to figure out!!!

He's still got his hand on his head .. maybe he was having a problem with his sunglasses .. LOL!!

After lunch .. Laura's Emporium .. I really liked this place!!  If I lived here I would be coming here quite often!!!

I think Ken should make one of these for me!!!

We had also let Sydni and Summer know that I liked Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls .. so they searched for those also  .. although Summer thinks they are ugly .. LOL!!  I had to agree with her that some of them ARE ugly .. but not all!!!

This booth also had a collection of Boyd's Bears .. but none that I wanted!!!

However, I did buy the little bear that was setting up in front of their Boyds Bear for sale sign .. and this 100th Anniversary of the Teddy Bear .. 1902 - 2002 shadow box!!

This booth had something else I love too .. children's tea sets!!!  But no .. I didn't buy it!!

I thought this was a very neat idea for a country bathroom .. but not for $25.00!!   I took a pic to remind me to create a basket like this for myself!!

This picture didn't come out very good but I have to post it anyway .. Summer was excited because she found what she wanted .. the slinky dog from Toy Story!!!  If  I had a memory I would tell you it's name .. Summer told me .. but I have forgotten it!!!

We all thought the border in the bathroom was very neat!!  Ken asked the lady at the register where they got it .. I guess maybe he thought we should get some .. but the lady said it had been discontinued!!

I liked that they had this on a table by the door as you go out .. you got to learn a little bit about the lady the store was named after!!!

Next stop .. White City Antique Mercantile ..

I loved this store before I even got inside!!!

I really like that little red child's chair!!

The guys are a bit pooped by now .. or maybe they're just bored??????

Goodwill stores CAN be beautiful!!  We didn't go in this store but I just had to take a pic to post .. this is so much prettier than the store in Festus!!!

Would you want this job?????

The beautiful home of Tim, Krysti, Oceanna, Sydni and Summer in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  I love the architecture and façade (not sure that's the right word!!)  of the homes in the Port St. Lucie / Fort Pierce area.

I got the name of this plant for I knew there would be some who would want to know .. but alack and alas I can't find the paper I wrote it on .. I will get it again!!! ***  Portasporium is the name of the plant  .. I emailed Tim for help .. LOL!!    It is a lot prettier than it looks in this picture!!!

If you know me you know that I loved the décor of Tim and Krysti's home!!  Sorry the pictures didn't come out better .. one of these days I'll learn the right settings on my camera to take a good pic!!!

Tim had put a Roast in the crock pot before they left for the day and the house smelled delicious when we walked in!!   Krysti fixed the rest of the very delicious meal while we visited with Oceanna, Sydni and Summer.  Oceanna and Sydni look so much alike it's amazing .. as you can see here  they act a lot alike too .. LOL!!

It was a great day and over all too soon .. I was so glad the girls didn't have school and we got to spend the whole day with them!!     I will be forever thankful to have had this day!!

A sunset in Port St. Lucie .. BEAUTIFUL!!!

DAY SEVEN ..WHAT'S IN TITUSVILLE?????

The Ramada Inn in Titusville .. notice the Denny's sign to the left of the entrance.  When you stay here you get vouchers for Breakfast at Denny's instead of a Continental Breakfast .. how neat!!!

We had our Breakfast and then went back to the room to look at info on rooms in Port St. Lucie .. we had a book of coupons that said you could stay at the Hutchinson Island Plaza for only $69.00 a night .. this was a waterview room etc. etc. etc.  .. I called to reserve a room since we had been having such a problem with getting rooms .. of course their response about the coupon was "Oh no .. we can't do that this weekend .. those rooms are all taken" .. but they had a few rooms left for $174.00 a night!!  I of course said "No thank you" .. she then offered to see what she could find in that area for the price range we were looking for and after a few minutes on her computer came up with rooms at the Econo Lodge for $55.00 a night .. but I would have to book them myself via the phone number she gave me or computer.   I tried booking them by computer but ended up booking them by phone .. and got a senior discount .. Tra La .. Tra La .. $53.00 a night!!   With that job done we climbed into the car and were off to see what we could find to do in Titusville.

We had already seen in a AAA travel book about a Botanical Garden and had planned to do that but along the way we came across this ...

Antique Shops and Thrift Stores are two of my favorite places .. this place was huge and of course we had to stop!!!

I saw a lot of very neat antique items but took just a few pics of things I really found neat!!

I saw this tree and thought instantly of my daughter Cris and my friend Kathy back home in Illinois!!  They both have a tree like this .. Kathy is planning to leave hers out year round and decorate it for the seasons and holidays ..   how neat it would be to collect vintage teacups to decorate it with!!!    Now I'm trying to figure out where I could put one .. LOL!!

Of course I love this booth!!!

This struck my fance but the $62.00 price didn't .. so I just took a picture to share!!!

I took a picture of this just because I have an enamelware pan that I could do this with .. but would get the stuff with red berries instead of blue!!

We spent an hour or three in the Antique Shop .. I haven't yet taken a picture of what I bought .. a vintage song sheet with Raggedy Ann and Andy on it .. and some of those vintage looking candles that are powered by  AA batteries.

We've done a lot of this in the last several days ..I decided it was time to get a pic!!  Gas was $3.39.  Notice Ken has shorts and a short sleeved shirt on!!

Before taking off for our hotel in Port St. Lucie I called the phone number for our hotel to get an address to give to "Bertha" so she could help us find our way and discovered the Econo Lodge we were headed for was in Fort Pierce .. not Port St. Lucie!!!  Guess it's a good thing I called .. LOL!!!  That's OK .. as you can see Port St. Lucie is only 11 miles away!!

I called Tim as soon as we got settled into our room and discussed  our plans for the next day .. and we were off to yet another Cracker Barrel for our supper .. and then back to the room for computing .. reading .. and RELAXING!!!  Tomorrow would be a busy busy day .. at the very top of our list of things to do .. 'Treasure Hunting" .. Tim and Krysti love going on the hunt just as much as I do!!!

DAY SIX .. A DAY IN ST. AUGUSTINE!!

Our first view of the morning in St. Augustine .. getting ready to walk over to the front lobby for our morning Coffee and Continental Breakfast.   No ocean view today but look at that bright blue skies and beautiful fluffy clouds!!!

I did a little "beaching" about our room in yesterday's posting .. we were amazed when we discovered they even charge for their ice .. only 25 cents but it's the principal of the matter, right????  Ken has traveled a lot and he said it's the first time he's ever stayed any place that charged for their ice!!

This shows how close we were to the highway .. but that's our fault for not driving around and checking other places .. just grabbed the first room we could get when we knew it was right on top of the highway .. Duhhhhhhhh!!!

Gas was $3.04 in Myrtle Beach before we left .. $3.25 as we got gas in Georgia .. the price of gas in St. Augustine!!  Wondering how high it's going to be in Florida .. LOL!!

In the office of the Info Center in downtown historic St. Augustine!!  They have several attractions having to do with ghosts!!  This was also the office for getting on the Trolley to tour the city.

VIEWS FROM THE TROLLEY ...

We were out and about at 9:00 in the morning .. found out these places don't open until 10:00 or later!!!  Looks like a ghost town right now .. LOL!!

The Fort .. we'll be checking this out later!!  You can get off the Trolley at any of their many stops and get back on when you are ready.  We got off at the stop by the Fort to check it out!  We really like the Fort and there are LOTS of pics ..

Look at that sun .. Yayyyyyyy!!!

All about the bathroom .. or Necessary Room as they called it .. LOL!!

This is the oldest masonry fortress in the continental United States.  It was built 1872 - 1895 and is made of Coquina .. a soft local shellrock .. as we were going up the steps to the top I notice a large shell that evidently didn't get crushed to help form this building material!!!  And look at all the tiny pieces of shell.  When you look at this place and walk through it it's amazing that all of this was put together with crushed shells!!!

As you can see .. it was windy as all get out that day .. very sunny  but also very windy and a bit chilly .. especially when you were on the Trolley going through the town!!  You can imagine how my hair looked by the end of the day .. LOL!!!

Notice the metal spikes in the opening (window?) in the wall .. wherever there were openings like this there were the metal spikes .. a gentleman told us this was to keep the birds from building nests there!!  Makes sense, huh?

The beds in the prison part of the fortress!!

AAHHH .. there's the Trolley!!

The "Tree Top Tavern" .. Sharon and Mel told us this was a great place to eat so of course we gave it a try!!

A very unique place .. it was like eating lunch in a tree house!!  My Cheeseburger .. yeah another Cheeseburger .. was pretty good but Ken gave me a bite of his  Chipotle Chicken Enchilada and I must say it was better than the Cheeseburger  .. LOL!!

My first view of Oranges growing on the trees through the window of the "treehouse"  .. can you see them?????  Now I feel like I am truly in Florida .. LOL!!

Another place I'd like to visit again some time!!

The outside of the "Tree Top Tavern" .. needless to say it used to be a Mill!!!

It's later in the day .. the stores are open .. and the crowds have begun!!

Loved this shirt but not the price .. so all you get is a picture .. LOL!!

How about this one??????

When we first went through this street this gentleman was laying up again the building all wrapped up in a sleeping bag .. now he's weaving Roses and selling them.  Notice the green Roses in the glass at the front of the picture.

Woooo Hoooo .. another Penny Smashing Machine!!

I'm glad Madonna asked for the smashed pennies .. it's fun looking for these machines and such a triumph when we find one ..and make those pennies .. LOL!!!

See the penny in about the middle of the picture??????

Now the penny is down by the round brown wheel that is going to put it into the smasher!!

There's the Trolley again but we have decided walking is more fun!!  The guy driving the Trolley tells stories about the various places and has lots of historical info but you can't remember it 5 minutes later .. LOL!!  Should have brought a tape recorder!!!

You could rent these neat little things to drive yourself around town!!!

We are now back in the car and driving across the bridge to the St. Augustine Lighthouse!!

AH HA!!!  Another one .. and of course we have to have pennies with lighthouses on them!!!

After leaving the lighthouse we decided it was time to leave St. Augustine and head towards Port St. Lucie and see how far we could get before stopping for the night.

BTW .. In talking to different people we came across during the day we discovered that the reason the hotels were so full is because of the Daytona 500 Race coming up this weekend!!  Someone said the hotels always fill up this time of year!!   FACT TO REMEMBER:  Do not plan to stay in St. Augustine when the Daytona 500 is coming!!

We see the ocean at last!!!

At around 6:00 pm we took the Titusville, Florida exit and checked in at the Ramada Inn.  We had a coupon from one of those booklets you pick up at the Rest Areas to get a room for $69.99 .. but alack and alas .. the Daytona 500 is this weekend and they are not honoring coupons at this time .. but they could give us a room for $89.99 .. it's 6:00 in the evening .. we're tired and hungry .. we took it.  At least it was a nice room .. with a fridge .. microwave .. coffee pot and blow dryer .. and the internet worked great!!  I am HAPPY!!

Supper .. at guess where???  Yep .. Cracker Barrel .. you can't go wrong with Cracker Barrel!!!  And then back to the hotel to play on my computer .. Yayyyyyy!!  We also got a game of "Kings In The Corner" in .. and I WON!!!

Thrilled to be in Florida at last and many miles closer to getting together with Tim and his family .. I can hardly  believe it!!!
