THE BIG OORAH!!!!
Wondering why this is our "BIG OORAH" Adventure??? Because Ken was in the Marines from 1957 to 1960 .. when his squadron was in formation and the command was made to break formation the whole squadron would shout "OORAH"!!! His squadron .. the HMRL261 Helicopter Squadron is having a reunion at the Holiday Inn in Quantico, Virginia and the Novaks are headed that way!!! The reunion doesn't start until the 30th but we are going that way several days ahead to do some sightseeing along the way and be tourists for a while!!!
DAY ONE OF OUR LATEST ADVENTURE .. Friday, April 25
Left home at 8:45 .. topped off gas tank for $3.56 a gallon .. Philips 66 .. South County Mall .. walked 1 mile .. then to the Bread Company to visit with the gang before taking off. Left the Bread Company at 10:45 and we're on our way!!!
The GPS tells us it's 293 miles to Lexington, KY where we plan to stay for the night. According to BB .. our faithful GPS .. we'll be there at 4:53 .. of course she doesn't know how many times we'll be stopping between here and there .. LOL!!!!
Across the JB Bridge and out of Missouri ..
And into Illinois for a short while .. and then ..
1:15 .. Indiana Welcome Center .. Time for lunch .. leftover Easter Ham .. King's Hawaiian Rolls .. Chips .. Diet Dr. Pepper .. sunshine and a beautiful breeze .. aaaahhhh a beautiful day for a picnic!!!
3:00 In Kentucky .. Louisville .. time to hook BB up .. gotta' find Cabela's and smash a penny for a certain someone!!!! Boy did we hit traffic trying to get there .. YIKES!!! Madonna you are in big time trouble with Ken .. LOL!!!
Finally made it to Cabela's .. first stop .. bathroom .. oh yeah .. THEN the penny machine!!!!!
I love Cabela's décor!!!
The Pressed Penny Pro at work .. LOL!!!
Smashed penny is in Ken's pocket .. time to get back on I 64 and make our way to Lexington!!!
5:15 .. Made it to Lexington .. Time to fill the gas tank .. $3.72 a gallon ... Speedway. Headed for the Ramada to check in for the night. AH OH .. big things going on in Lexington with a Rolex Horse Show .. Ramada is FULL!!! So are the other hotels we checked!! Off to Cracker Barrel for supper then headed out of Lexington .. hopefully we can get a hotel in Winchester .. it's just a few miles away so hotels there may be full too!!!
8:00 .. WE HAVE A ROOM .. YAAAYYYYYYY!!! Got a suite at the Comfort Inn Suites in Morehead, KY. As you can see by the time we drove several miles before finding a town where we could get a room for the night!! That Rolex Horse Show seems to be a very popular event .. Arrgghhhhh!!!
We saw LOTS of cattle farms as we were driving through Kentucky!! Not real exciting but such a peaceful pic I just had to share it!!!
I enjoyed the first part of your trip !! Good pics !! I like the one of the horses in Kentucky !! I am smiling !!
