DAY 8 .. NO MORE SAND AND SUNSHINE!!

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24 ..

We're still in Florida this morning but we'll be heading out shortly.  We are at the Days Inn in Ocala, Florida .. got a bit of a surprise when getting ready for the day .. our room was very nice .. carpet looked bright and new .. bed was comfortable .. however, the tub and showerhead were greatly in need of being replaced!!  Got ready to take a quick shower before starting the day and the water coming from the showerhead was just a trickle .. turned the showerhead every way we could and still just a trickle although it poured fine from the faucet.  The area around the drain was pretty rust strained from hard water over the years .. and there was no plug for the drain so couldn't have taken a bath even if we wanted to .. which I didn't .. LOL!!  Actually I'm thinking they are in the process of redoing the rooms because everything else about the room was great!!  Oh well .. bags are packed .. car is loaded .. time for Breakfast!!! 

 

I really like their Breakfast room .. AND they serve a HOT Breakfast .. that makes up for the lack of getting a shower this morning .. LOL!! 

They are forecasting sleet / freezing rain / snow for Georgia and Tennessee.  Also forecasting ice in Mississippi and Alabama so bad stuff in both directions.  Ken is stewing trying to figure out which way we should go!!!  We'll see what the day holds as we travel on!!! 

8:00 .. EXIT 338 .. Gas for $2.35 .. Kenny is excited .. gas by the motel was $2.47!!!  We will definitely be stopping at Love's!!!  You can tell we aint in Florida any more .. sky is hazey .. temp is 68. 

Gas tank is full and we're off .. one of the first things we saw when we got back on the highway was a WHITE Corvette .. Ken said he had never seen a white Corvette before so of course I had to snap a pic!!!!!  

You can tell we're leaving Florida .. by 9:32 the temp was down to 56 degrees .. we went from hazey to misty rain to RAIN!!!!  We passed up the exit for Highway 10 .. Ken had finally made the decision to go through Georgia / Tennessee!! 

Nothing to take pics of .. rain .. trees .. and road signs!!!  

10:20 .. We made it to the Georgia Welcome Center .. temp is down to 52!!!

 

  Aaahhhh .. look what Kenny found  .. a  penny smasher .. Yayyyyyyyy!!!!! 

10:58 .. Adel, Georgia .. stopped at the Citgo for gas .. Ken was happily pumping the gas in the tank thinking  it was 2.22 a gallon .. happy as a Lark .. he soon discovered that price was for cash .. we paid 2.28!!   Sorry Ken I just had to tell .. LOL!!  Temp is still dropping .. it's down to 49 and it's still raining!!    When we got back on the highway we discovered a pickup  in front of us .. a sign on the back said " Back off .. the closer you get the slower I go" ..  these Georgians have a great sense of humor .. LOL LOL LOL!!!!!

11:35 .. Just passed Ashburn, Georgia.  RAIN HAS STOPPED .. YAYYYYYY!!!  Temp is down to 47!! 

Cordele, Georgia .. CRACKER BARREL AHEAD .. YIPPPEEE!!!!  Welcome news .. we're getting hungry!!!

We missed seeing Sydni and Summer setting in the rocking chairs playing Checkers as we walked across the porch!!!  We bought the girls a Cracker Barrel Checker set as a remembrance of the fun they had playing Checkers at Cracker Barrel .. we'll send it to them when we get back home!!! 

1:19 .. Vienna, Georgia.  The sign we've been watching for .. WE'RE NUTS!!!  Pat & Rich and Shirley & Bill told us all about this place .. Walnuts, Pecans and every other Nut you could ever think of and great prices!!!  They stop on their way home every year!!! 



 

From this point on this story  is a work in progress!!  Hopefully someday I will get it finished!!! 

2:11 .. 41 degrees.  Almost to Atlanta.  passed a couple of snow plows ,, must be going where the ice / snow is?????  pic.   Forsyth. 

2:31  40 miles to Atlanta .. temp 38.  pic ipad Whoops .. 2:40 traffic almost at a standstill but the road is clear not slick??????  Accident .. 2 semis and a car.  Traffic on roads going the other direction at a standstill for miles back.  Feel bad for thosepeople but sue glad it's not in the north lanes .. so far it's over 3 miles!!!  pic 35 is 7 miles.  backup 9 miles!!!  aAnd the people xdriving right now at a normal rate of speed have no idea they're driving into that 
mess!!!!

QT .. pit stop / gas . 2.29 / my favorite Raspeberry Caramel Machiato Cappacino!!!! 

Atlanta at last .. roads are great .. no ice .. nothing.  Sure is busy though ... 4:30 their time .. rush hour!!  pics.  Signas over the highway say Snow Wednesday AM .. sure glad we didn't wait!!!!  Reports last night had ice NOrth of Atlanta.  3:53 .. a light dusting of snow in the woods at the side of the highway.  Very light.  Temp is now 36!!!!       n

4:28 .. pit stop at McDonalds .. Ice Cream and a Facebook update but the posting didn't post????? I tried!!

4:45 just passed Calhoun .. the sun just popped out for the first time today!!!  5:46 here .. strange the sun would come out .. LOL!!!!!

5:24 Chattanooga TN.  Roads still clear.  Temp 42. 

pic 60 is the Tennessee River.  This poicture i for Ken because he said it was more interesting than the mountains!!!
