Ken discovered I had never been to the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis and it is one of Sidney and Lydia's favorite places to go so on Friday, June 7th we headed for the museum to meet up with Mary, Sidney and Lydia for a few hours fun.
We were surprised when we got there to discover that Mary and the kids hadn't made it there before us but we took a look around in the entrance area as we waited.
Hmmmmmm .. it seems there are now TWO entrances into the museum!! Mary and the kids were waiting at the other entrance wondering where we were .. LOL LOL LOL!!
After getting back in the car and making a short drive we arrived at "original" entrance which was where we were SUPPOSED to be .. there stood Mary, Sidney and Lydia waiting patiently .. well .. somewhat patiently .. LOL!!!
This place is filled with TRAINS .. REAL TRAINS!! OLD TRAINS!! You find yourself in a trainyard full of them. Some you can walk through .. some you just look at as you walk by. It was amazing to me how HUGE they are!! They are a lot bigger when you're standing close enough to touch them than they look when they're chugging down the tracks in front of you!!
We were talking about how huge those wheels are so of course I had to get a picture of Sidney and Lydia in front of them!!!
And a picture of this nest .. the nest was up so high we couldn't tell if there were baby birds inside or not!
Lydia is pulling the rope to ring the engine's bell .. it was so hard to pull Sidney ended up helping her!!
They were able to ring the bell on this engine from the outside .. I thought I was getting the bell in the picture too but you can just barely see the edge of the bell if you follow the rope to it's end!!!
The white car says "Monsanto Chemicals" .. Ken retired from Monsanto .. and at one time filling the train cars was a part of his job!!!
I don't remember ever seeing anything about this car but supposedly Bobby Darrin bought it from the man who had it built and drove it to the Academy Awards and used it in movies .. I never ever saw it in a movie!!!!
I took pictures of just a FEW of the cars scattered through the building .. there are lots more to see!!
We were upstairs and Mary and I walked down the stairs leaving Sidney, Lydia and Grandpa to come down on the elevator .. seeing who would make it down first!! Needless to say Mary and I made it down first .. and I got this pic of Lydia and Sidney .. only to discover .. Grandpa was still upstairs .. LOL!!
Lydia and Sidney made a laughing run upstairs to rescue Grandpa .. and escort him down on the elevator .. LOL LOL LOL!!!
After leaving the Automobile Museum we decided we needed to take a ride on the little red train that runs around the area. On the tram ride from the Auto Museum to the train station Lydia and Sidney got to set up by the engineer and he gave them the job of calling "ALL ABOARRRRDDDD"!!!
Mary and I were sitting in the front car by the kids .. Grandpa chose to ride in the very last car!!!
There's the train .. it will soon be our turn!!!

After our train trip we once again board the tram for the trip back to the parking lot .. and once again Lydia and Sidney got to sit up front and call "ALLLL ABOARRRRDDD"!!
This time the engineer gave them and the little boy in the seat in front of us a chance to holler .. sad to say I didn't push the record button quick enough and got only part of it!!!
