OORAH ADVENTURE .. DAY EIGHT!!

Friday, May 2

What a wonderful adventure we have been having but DAY EIGHT .. YIKES .. not so great!!!  Poor Ken woke up about 5:00 am and the ceiling and walls were zooming in and out on him .. he was dizzy dizzy dizzy!!!  His head spun when he was laying down .. his head spun even more when he tried to set up!!  Cool cloths .. sips of ice water .. we thought it might be the Talapia he had eaten the night before but he wasn't terribly sick to his stomach.  Don't want to go into the gory details but will say he vomited a little but not enough for it to be food poisoning.  Chewed some Tums but they didn't sit too well!!  I kept replacing the icy cold wash cloths and he kept sipping water.  Once he was resting fairly comfortably I went downstairs to let our leader know we would not be taking part in the day's activities  and headed to the restaurant in the hotel and fixed us both a plate from the Breakfast Buffet  and got some Orange Juice and brought it back to the room .. Ken took a few sips of his OJ but didn't feel like eating of course.  Later in the afternoon he finally decided he would try the Scrambled Eggs .. it seemed to help a little to finally eat something.   Bit by bit the dizziness subsided but never completely went away.  By evening he was able to be up and around walking in the room.  He wanted to get out of the hotel and into some fresh air so loaded into the car and I drove to the Cracker Barrel we had noticed just a few blocks from the hotel.  He was able to eat his supper with no problems and kept it down.  He was on the mend .. Yayyyyyy!!!  By this time he was not feeling great but able to enjoy TV and even laughed a little every now and then!!!

What we missed that day .. a tour of the Marine Base in Washington DC in the morning .. and in the evening we were to watch the 8th & I Marine Corps Evening Parade.

I searched on Google for info on the Marine Barracks ..

Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., also known as "8th & I," is the oldest active post in the Marine Corps. It was founded by President Thomas Jefferson and Lt. Col. William Ward Burrows, the third commandant of the Marine Corps, in 1801.

Located on the corners of 8th & I Streets in southeast Washington, D.C., the Barracks supports both ceremonial and security missions in the nation's capital.

The Barracks is home to many nationally recognized units, including the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marine Band, the official Marine Corps Color Guard, and the Marine Corps Body Bearers. It is also the site of the Home of the Commandants, which, along with the Barracks, is a registered national historic landmark.

Click on the link below for a few pics and history of the barracks ..

I got lucky on You Tube and found several videos of the 8th & I Marine Corps Band playing in parades ..

This last one is a long one .. 1 hour and 10 minutes .. but it is well worth watching!!  Grab a cup of Coffee and a snack .. sit back .. and ENJOY!!!
