THE MISSOURI CIVIL WAR MUSEUM!!!

July 18, 2016 .. A hot and muggy Monday  .. Ken had a bright and early dentist appointment in the city .. he thought he was getting 2 fillings put in .. but alack and alas .. it was 4 fillings!!!  And would you believe I never heard him whine even one time .. proud of you Ken!!!  After the dentist we went to Bread Co of course for Coffee and a visit with the Bunch!!!   And then we decided to go to the Civil War Museum at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery!!!  We have been saying we were going to do this for probably 2 years .. at least 1 year .. and hadn't made it yet .. but Bill and Shirley had been there recently and were talking about it so we decided this would be the day!!!   And YES of course I have pictures ..

Our visit to the museum started off with a 15 minute video about Jefferson Barracks and the part it played in the Civil War and over the years.  A very interesting video.

There are of course many many displays .. and you would love to take a picture of everything  in every display .. but   I made myself happy with just enjoying the displays and taking a few pics of things I absolutely could not resist taking a picture of !!!

There were many Surgical / Amputation sets on display throughout the museum .. some had saw big enough that they looked like they could saw a tree down!!!  A bit sad to look at these and realize that they had actually been used to saw people's limbs off all those many years ago!!!

My  paternal great grandmother's first husband was killed in the Civil War in January of 1863 in Joliton, Tennessee.  His name was Zephania Kline.  He was with the  79th Illinois Infantry.

Whoops .. Sorry .. didn't realize this was so fuzzy .. it is describing the flag below with 38 stars .. I am hoping that if you click on the pic MAYBE part of it will be readable!!!

The card below tells about the banner to the right of the flag ..

After leaving the museum we traveled through the cemetery  .. there were a lot of fallen trees from a storm they had in St. Louis a week ago .. they have been working on the cleanup but have a long ways to go!!!

If you have not been to the Missouri Civil War Museum you should make plans to go .. besides the short video we saw at the beginning of our visit there was another much longer and very interesting video   in one of the display rooms!!!  Well worth seeing!!!

  1. Hi Liz and Ken ! The Missouri Civil War Museum was so interesting !! Great pics !! One of the American flags, I could see you taking the pic and Ken looking at something on the other side . WOW! St. Louis must have gotten a big storm for all those trees to be uprooted.

  2. I'll have to go back and give the pics a better look .. I didn't notice that you could see the two of us in one of them .. LOL!!! Enjoyed the museum. They also have a telephone museum at Jefferson Barrack's we plan to check out one of these days. Ken's first wife is buried at Jefferson Barrack's .. Ken will be buried with her there when his time comes. We go there to put a wreath or flowers on her grave. They keep it very clean and in very good shape .. All those trees down is a shame!! But they are working on getting the cleanup done. The city and surrounding area got a very bad storm and lots of trees down and lots of people lost electricity .. Very heavy winds .. Somehow it missed Festus / Sawyers Ridge .. Thank You Lord!!!
