This is the BIG day!!! Ken and Liz are heading for Florida .. family .. friends .. and sunshine!!! We were up at 5:00 taking showers and getting ready to hit the road!! We had gotten an inch of snow on Sunday and the roads were very slick .. the first thing Ken did was go out the garage door to see if the roads through the subdivision had been cleaned .. we were greatly surprised to see that they had .. Wooooo Hooooo!!

My silly camera has the date wrong on the pictures .. Duhhhhh .. if I take pictures in the morning it puts the date from the day before .. but later pictures have the right date!!!
The roads aren't real clear but they're a whole lot better than they were when we tried them Sunday!! We are on the way .. YAYYYYY!!!!
Monday evening edition .. we got to our hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee about 3:30 pm Missouri time .. Tennessee is an hour ahead of us so it was 4:40 their time!! We hadn't realized we would get here this early and considered going on before stopping for the night but our buns were numb and our eyes were tired .. can't imagine how worn out Ken feels after driving for 10 hours .. time for a break!! We're all settled in .. the few pictures I took have been uploaded .. Ken's checking out his Facebook on the Kindle .. and I'm pecking away on the my laptop keyboard!! We haven't had our supper yet so we'll be taking off after a while to see what we can find to gobble!!!

Believe it or not this is the Rest Area as we are coming into Paducah, Kentucky!!! A museum is attached .. if you're there between 1 and 4 pm on weekdays you can take a tour!!!!
Traveling through Kentucky there was snow on the ground and ice in the trees but the roads were clear!!
By the time we got into Tennessee all of the ice was gone and most of the snow was gone too!!
We had our biggest laugh of the day at this Rest Stop in Tennessee!! I got out of the car and headed for the door .. noticed Ken wasn't right beside me .. when I turned around to see where he was he was chasing a paper across the parking lot .. trying to step on it. It was very windy and that paper did not want to be stopped!!! It had blown out of the car when Ken got out and he didn't know if it was something important or unimportant!! He was having no luck catching the thing so I told him just to let it go and we both had a good laugh at him stomping around the parking lot trying to trap the thing .. LOL!! But WAIT .. that's not the end of the story!!! As we were leaving the parking lot I saw a white paper laying over by the curb as you start to leave the lot .. I told Ken to pill over so I could see if it was the paper he had been chasing .. I didn't really think it was .. I figured it had blown about 50 miles away by then .. but sure enough .. it was the paper out of our car .. it was our receipt he hadn't been able to find to give to me to keep after we left the Cracker Barrel where we stopped for lunch!! This is probably one of those stories where you have to have been there to find it funny but I just had to share it .. we both got a huge laugh out of the whole thing .. I would love to have had a video of Ken chasing it through the parking lot .. LOL LOL LOL!!! Sorry Ken .. I love you but I just had to tell it!!!
And now we're driving in the Smokey Mountains ....
I don't know what these smoke stacks are attached to but I thought it would make a neat picture!!!!
AAAHHHH .. we have reached our home for the night .. the Red Roof Inn in Knoxville, Tennessee!!! 3:30 PM our time .. 4:30 PM their time!! Funny .. it's named the RED Roof Inn .. but the roof is NOT red!!!

Our room for the night!! We picked up a coupon book at one of the Rest Areas we stopped at and found a coupon and got the room for $45.95 .. probably the best priced room we'll have for the whole vacation!!! I'm happy with it .. I like the maple furniture .. especially the little square table and chairs!!!
Even later Monday night edition ...
We asked the gentleman at the desk where was the best place for dinner .. he suggested "Puleo's Grille" .. we saw it as we drive in and thought it was a Mexican Place but it's actually a Steak and Italian Food place!!! That's where we went ... and it was a great choice!! Ken got Shrimp and Grits which he says he loves but can only find it in the South .. I got a Maple Glazed Pork Chop with Sweet Potato and Onion Straws .. and of course they brought a small loaf of Bread also. Both meals were very very good and very very filling!! If we ever come this way again that's where I would choose to eat!!!
It was a great day .. we had clear roads and a safe trip thus far .. Thank You Lord and Thank You Ken!!

Hi Liz and Ken ! I just read your first day on your trip !! Great pics !! What a fun time you are having together !! I look forward to the rest of your "Winter Trip." It is 7 here and possibility of a wind chill factor of -11 tonight . It is so cold, it is unreal ! I got taxes done today. Patty and Sharon Lasam and I went to the Chinese restaurant on N. Jackson St. for lunch. I went to Megan's basketball game. They won and she made a basket ! Then, I went to Katrena's for a delicious supper ! Love and Big Hugs to both of you !!
