DAY TWO .. FEBRUARY 1
First stop of the day .. the Breakfast Room in the Quality Inn for our hot Breakfast of course!!! We shared a Waffle / Hard Egg w Cheese folded inside / Sausage Patty / 1/2 Biscuit w Gravy / Coffee. Nice hot Breakfast great way to start our day!!!
We were on the road at 7:06 .. that would be 8:06 SC time!!! Temp 37. Sun is
shining!!!
7:19 .. in North Carolina .. missed the sign of course .. what else is new????? In the mountains .. lots of pics .. Wooooo Hoooooo!!! Would love to see this area when everything is green!!!!
8:23 .. Fines Creek Tunnel ..

8:20 Rest Area .. Fletcher, NC .. a whole hour since the last rest stop .. WOW!!!!
8:46 .. We are now in South Carolina ... Yep .. missed the sign!!!!
9:06 Welcome Center .. nice young man gave us a bag of Myrtle Beach info
including coupons for things. Told us 260 miles to Myrtle Beach. Also
picked up info on Charleston SC.
10:03. Pit stop. Finally got my brain in gear and decided if I make myself walk at least 300 steps each place we stop my Fitbit will be a whole lot happier!!!! Walked 350 steps here!!! Kenny hit the vending machines and bought a package of Cookies .. Ah Oh!!!!

Had lunch at Arby's in Florence, SC
.. Gas at Murphy's for $1.95. 78 miles to Myrtle Beach!!
Walked 300 steps while Ken pumped gas!! Should have waited .. couple
blocks up the street gas was 1.93 .. 1.92 .. 1.87 ... LOL!!! Little
further out of town .. 1.88 !!!
3:02 .. Myrtle Beach at last!!! As you can see I almost missed this sign too .. LOL!!!
I always have to get a picture of this sign .. Grissom is my maiden name .. LOL!!!
The Caravelle Resort office on the left ..
We normally stay in the big Caravelle building on the right .. but due to the hurricane that hit several months ago it is in a mess and is being remodeled / rebuilt. They booked us into the St. Clements .. oceanfront .. that's the pink building just to the left of the Caravelle.
Sad to say we were NOT happy with the efficiency they had booked for us in the St. Clements .. it was in a great location oceanfront but that was about the only thing we liked about it .. it even stunk!!! Needless to say we loaded all our stuff back in the car and went back to the Caravelle office and talked to them .. after much time on the computer and a talk with the manager they found 3 other efficiencies still available .. none of them were oceanfront but 2 were ocean view so we took a look at them and chose one in Caravelle Towers. We were both reallllllyyyy disappointed that we would not be oceanfront .. but what can you do??? At least we are ocean view and can see the ocean off our balcony and hear the waves if the balcony door is open!!! So we unloaded the car once again and got ourselves all settled in!!!
Once we got everything settled we headed for the beach to walk off our disappointment and frustration and calm our nerves!!!
This is the hotel we stayed in the last 2 times we were here ... if you enlarge the pic you can see what a mess it is right now!!!
We had gotten a call from Ken's Marine buddy Jerry letting us know they had made it MB too and were at the Bingo game at the Santa Maria .. walked over and visited with them for a short while but we hadn't had dinner yet so didn't stay to play Bingo!!!
And then the high point of the day for Ken .. we walked on down the street to River City for his favorite Darlington 500 Fried Bologna SANDWICH .. 1/2 pound of Fried Bologna!!!
He was tossing Peanut shells at me instead of tossing them on the floor .. of course I shot them back .. made a good shot with that one .. LOL!!!

Liz had a Cheeseburger .. and Cherry Coke .. a very delicious Cheeseburger!!!
As we walked back down the street to the Caravelle Towers ahead of us was a fingernail moon and one bright star in that black black sky!!!
Between the walk on the beach .. the visit with Jerry and Edna .. our sandwiches at River City .. and our moonlight walk back to our "home away from home" we worked off our frazzled nerves and accepted the situation and are once again two happy people!!!
Hi Liz and Ken ! I am enjoying your Vacation with you ! Great pics ! I use to like fried bologna when I was a kid ! Ken looks so tired. That was a lot of driving ! Maybe, next year , you can get them all to meet in the Spring when everything is green ! You will have a great time though ! You always do ---Oh, I forgot to tell you , Liz, I am so proud of you keeping up on Fitbit ~ Good job ! I check the Fitbit, your facebook, your facebook message , weight loss blog ,and blathering blog to see if you have posted anywhere . That way I keep up with you ! (LOL) --Sending you Both Love and Hugs ! Enjoy !
ReplyDeleteYes .. that was around 900 miles in 2 days .. I was worn out just from riding. Actually at the time we were at River City we were both still a little frazzled and battling the disappointment of not being oceanfront where we could be right there by the ocean and see and hear the waves rolling in .. and see the sunrise in the morning. Regarding the Fitbit .. I just wish I had thought of doing that the first day!!!
